Pourrions-nous décaler la réunion à jeudi matin ?
Every demo is the real flow: dictate, polish, insert, send. Click an app to switch.
01
Hold ⌥ space
A pill fades in at the bottom of your screen, mic already hot. No window to find, no app to open.
02
Say it badly
Stream-of-thought is fine. Live transcription keeps up, filler words and false starts included.
03
Release
The polished sentence lands exactly where your cursor was. About a second later.
Use cases
One hotkey. Every conversation.
Same voice, different register: crisp in Mail, casual in Slack, English in WhatsApp even when you spoke French. Murmur writes for the app you're in.
"euh tell him I'll review the contract um tomorrow and get back"
I'll review the contract tomorrow and get back to you by noon.
"say the deploy went fine and staging looks good"
Deploy went smoothly, staging looks good.
"dis-lui que la maquette sera prête jeudi"
The mockup will be ready on Thursday.

Features
Everything dictation should have been.
Built on Apple's native frameworks, end to end. No cloud, no account, no SDKs. Nothing between your voice and your text.
You said
euh so basically like I checked the numbers um and I think I think we should ship friday not thursday you know
Murmur wrote
I've reviewed the numbers, and I'd recommend we ship on Friday rather than Thursday.
From rambling to ready-to-send
One pass of Apple Intelligence between your voice and the send button. Raw, Pro, or Pro + Translate.
Everything happens on your Mac
Speech, rewriting and translation all run on the Neural Engine. Cut the Wi-Fi mid-sentence. Murmur won't notice.
Works in every app
If you can place a cursor there, Murmur can write there. Push-to-talk or toggle, your call.
Speak French, send Japanese
Think in one language, send in another. Language packs live on your Mac, so translation is as instant as transcription.

Faster than switching windows
Models pre-warm the instant your finger touches the key. A full sentence lands in under 1.5 seconds, before you'd have typed the first word.
"Could we move the meeting to Thursday morning?"
Lives in your menu bar
No Dock icon, no window, no noise. Just a quiet glyph that pulses while you speak, with your last 50 dictations one click away.
Your voice never leaves your Mac.
Most dictation tools send your audio to a server. Murmur can't: there is no server. It's built exclusively on Apple's on-device frameworks, so privacy isn't a policy, it's the architecture.
- No cloud
- Every word is transcribed, rewritten and forgotten on your machine. Unplug the internet, nothing changes.
- No account
- Download, open, speak. There's nothing to sign up for and no email to hand over.
- No telemetry
- No analytics, no crash reporters, no phoning home. Murmur ships with zero third-party SDKs.
Questions, answered.
What is Murmur?
Murmur is a free dictation app for macOS. Hold a hotkey, speak naturally, and Apple Intelligence rewrites your words into clean, professional text typed directly into whatever app you're using. Everything runs on-device: no cloud, no account, no telemetry.
Is it really free?
Yes. Murmur is free. No trial, no subscription, no pro tier hiding the good parts. It runs on hardware you already own, so there's nothing for us to meter.
What do I need to run it?
macOS 15 or later. The professional rewrite feature uses Apple Intelligence, which requires macOS 26 on an Apple silicon Mac. On older systems Murmur works as a fast, private raw-dictation tool.
Which apps does it work with?
All of them. Murmur types into whatever app is frontmost: Mail, Slack, Notion, Xcode, a browser text field. If you can place a cursor there, Murmur can write there.
Why does it ask for permissions?
Microphone and speech recognition to hear you, and Accessibility so it can type the result into the app you're using. All three are standard macOS permissions, and everything they enable stays on your machine.
Which languages does it support?
Dictation works in every language Apple's on-device speech recognition understands. Translation uses downloadable language packs: French, English, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Chinese and more. The professional rewrite covers every language Apple Intelligence supports, a list that grows with each macOS release.
Will it slow down my Mac or drain the battery?
No. Murmur idles under 120 MB and unloads its models after a minute of inactivity. They pre-warm the instant your finger touches the hotkey, which is why it feels instant without costing you battery the rest of the day.
What happens in password fields?
Murmur detects secure input fields and refuses to type into them. If you dictate into one, the text lands in your clipboard instead and a small notice explains why. Your passwords never meet your dictations.
Where do my dictations go?
Your last 50 dictations are kept in a local file so you can re-copy them from the menu bar. Purge them anytime. Nothing is synced, uploaded or backed up anywhere.
Stop typing. Start talking.
One small download, and every text field on your Mac takes dictation. Change your mind? Drag it to the Trash. It leaves nothing behind.
